Baltazar Theatre

Dandelion & Dust is a two-part meta-theatrical dialogue on transience—between dandelion and dust, memory and forgetting, language and dance. The characters linger in the “dust” of the previous show, circling around words and asking what truly gives beauty and meaning. Baltazar Theatre, founded in 1998, is the only professional theatre in Hungary where all actors are people with intellectual disabilities—the ensemble consistently breaks stereotypes by foregrounding the actors’ artistry, not their limitations.

About the play

“Dandelion” opens like a memory—characters still stand in the dust of a finished show, repeating “was it beautiful?” while playing with poetry and their own roles. It’s a lyrical, pastel world where names and identities blur in dialogue.

“Dust” thickens the air: the same figures get tangled in word games (dust/dusk/desk), memory loops, and self-irony. Lines about everything falling apart meet a critic who questions the play’s sense, and the actors answer with dance and absurdity. The evening leaves the audience suspended between the urge to explain and the impossibility of wrapping it up.

About the ensemble

Baltazar Theatre, founded in 1998, is the only professional theatre in Hungary where all actors are people with intellectual disabilities. The group has become a significant part of Hungarian theatrical life, breaking new ground by showcasing actors' talents without focusing on their disabilities.

From its inception, Baltazar Theatre's purpose has been to bring the non-disabled and disabled parts of society closer together. Years of artistic work have proven that the word "disability" means nothing when it comes to art.

The ensemble is led by directors-choreographers Dorka Farkas and Olívia Réti-Harmath, along with writer István Vörös. The cast includes performers such as Balázs Erdős, Dániel Fehér, Szilvia Horváth, Anna Keresztes, Zsófia Kocsi, and many other dedicated artists.
