Synopsis
Saint Nicholas Night is an inclusive children’s comedy-fairytale that channels shared anticipation, gift-giving and encounter into a gentle dramaturgy of attention. Simple scenic frames invite imaginative participation and empathetic response, reinforcing belonging and social connection.
The ensemble’s methodology builds layered micro-skills: visual focus, hand coordination, rhythmic partnering. These accumulate into rehabilitation tools – theatre becomes a collaborative laboratory for empathy and expanded communication.
"This theatre is not about pity – it is about creativity."

About the ensemble
Folk Amateur Theatre – Studio PAROSTKI is a Ukrainian inclusive theatre ensemble based in Kyiv. The group brings together people with diverse psychophysical and intellectual development, creating a unique space for integrated artistic expression and rehabilitation through theatre.
The ensemble is directed by Sofia Nesterova, who collaborates closely with artistic director Vitalij Ljubota. Their creative practices are rooted in experimentation and collective search for a scenic language that transcends verbal forms of communication.
The performance Saint Nicholas Night was created and rehearsed under wartime conditions following the outbreak of the full-scale war in Ukraine in 2022. Despite ongoing challenges, the ensemble continued their work, demonstrating remarkable resilience and dedication to their artistic mission.
PAROSTKI has participated in international festivals and received recognition for their innovative approach to inclusive theatre. Central to their work is the principle of creativity over pity – each performance evolves through a process of collective improvisation and attention to individual abilities.
